C. Michael "Mike" Hill

Judge Mike Hill is a retired U.S. Magistrate Judge who brings 48 years of legal experience to every mediation. Before ascending to the Bench, Judge Hill tried numerous cases in both State and Federal courts, representing injured plaintiffs, defendants, and their insurers. From the Bench, Judge Hill presided over numerous jury and bench trials; he conducted hundreds of settlement conferences in all kinds of cases including serious personal injury cases, insurance disputes, intellectual property disputes, FLSA, Title VII cases, etc., settling over 95% of these cases.

Judge Hill graduated from The American University in Washington, D.C., magna cum laude, in 1971. After working as a street police officer for the Baton Rouge City Police, Judge Hill graduated from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University in 1976. After spending one year on the staff of the Law Center, Judge Hill was appointed Assistant United States Attorney, Middle District of Louisiana, where he served until 1982 when he entered private practice in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Since his retirement from the Bench and his reentry to legal practice, Judge Hill has concentrated on Alternative Dispute Resolution, primarily on mediation and arbitration of all types of cases. Judge Hill was appointed Special Master in the Middle District of Louisiana to handle Daubert motions in a complex securities fraud case and as a special mediator in the Eastern District of Louisiana for property damage claims allegedly arising from the actions of NOSWB.

Judge Hill is a member of the Louisiana Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, and the Lafayette Bar Association, through which he has handled pro bono cases for Acadiana Legal Services. Judge Hill has participated in many CLE programs and has served as a faculty member of the LSU Trial Advocacy Training Program.
