Matthew Block has a law practice and consulting firm in Thibodaux, Louisiana. Matthew has returned to Perry Dampf after serving seven years as Executive Counsel to Governor John Bel Edwards. In that role, Matthew served as the governor’s chief legal counsel, as well as one of his primary advisors.
Biography
PROFILE
Before his public service in the governor’s office, he practiced in the areas of commercial litigation, professional liability, personal injury and consumer fraud. While based in Thibodaux, Matthew has tried matters throughout Louisiana. He has extensive experience in business loss and valuation claims, having worked as Louisiana liaison counsel to the Gulf Coast Claims Facility for the BP oil spill. He also is a frequent lecturer at continuing legal education programs.
Matthew has been a member of the Louisiana Bar since 1998. He is also admitted in the U.S. District Court: Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of Louisiana; and U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit. He is a Louisiana Bar Foundation Fellow since 2010. He is a former member of the Louisiana State Bond Commission, Louisiana State Law Institute, and Louisiana State Bar House of Delegates. He is also a graduate of the United States Army War College Commandant’s National Security Program.
