Ernest “Ernie” Gieger has over 45 years of experience trying cases before Federal and State court juries and judges in Louisiana, Texas and throughout the United States. He has been selected hundreds of times to “parachute” into ongoing litigation to quickly review and resolve matters prior to trial. In 2023, Mr. Gieger completed an intensive mediation course offered by Pepperdine Law School’s Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, which is one of the highest ranked dispute resolution programs in the country. The coursework included Mediating the Litigated Case™, a 40-hour course that covered many topics including Ethical Requirements of the Model Standards of Practice for Mediators approved by the ABA-Dispute Resolution Section.
Mr. Gieger’s experience includes representing diverse national and international companies involving product defect, catastrophic fire casualties, oilfield disasters, toxic exposure, toxic waste as well as environmental litigation. He has practiced in areas including products liability, class actions, complex litigation, insurance, and toxic tort.
Gieger has served as national lead trial team counsel as well as regional counsel in litigation involving mass tort, multidistrict and class action litigation, including FEMA temporary housing, pain pumps, latex gloves, catheters, pedicle screws, surgical mesh products, pharmaceuticals and generic herbal supplements.
One of the founding partners of Gieger, Laborde and Laperouse, Gieger is admitted to practice in both Louisiana and Texas. Ernie has also litigated cases on behalf of his clients in numerous other jurisdictions throughout the country, including state and federal courts in Pennsylvania, Washington, Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi, Hawaii, Alabama, Arizona, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Georgia, and Ohio. In 2002, the National Law Journal recognized Ernie as part of the team featured as winning the 2001 Defense Verdict of the Year.
