David F. Bienvenu

David F. Bienvenu brings over forty years of experience in representing clients in state and federal courts throughout Louisiana to his work as a mediator. He completed formal mediation training at the Straus Institute of Dispute Resolution of Pepperdine University School of Law in 2013, which has been recognized as one of the top Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) programs in the country. Mr. Bienvenu has conducted successful mediations in casualty, insurance and commercial litigation since that time, in addition to maintaining an active litigation practice. He serves as a court appointed neutral/ mediator for the Hurricane Ida Claims in the 24th Judicial District Court for the Parish of Jefferson.

Mr. Bienvenu is a partner and member of the governing committee at Simon, Peragine, Smith & Redfearn, LLP. He is listed in Best Lawyers in America in Commercial Litigation, Insurance Litigation and Personal Injury Litigation and as a Louisiana Super Lawyer; and enjoys an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell for the highest level of professional excellence. Before entering private practice, he served as law clerk to the Honorable Patrick E. Carr of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. David is a graduate of Loyola University College of Law, where he was a member of the Moot Court Board and a recipient of the Milton Sheen Award in recognition of his leadership and service to the law and community. He is also a recipient of the Gillis Long Public Service Award and a past Chair and Emeritus Member of the College of Law Visiting Committee.

An active bar leader throughout his career, Mr. Bienvenu has served as president of the Louisiana State Bar Association (LSBA), the Louisiana Bar Foundation and the Historical Society of the Louisiana Supreme Court. He has devoted much of his bar activities to addressing the legal needs of the underserved, establishing the LSBA’s Access to Justice Program, serving as Chair of the New Orleans Pro Bono Project and on the boards of the New Orleans Legal Assistance Corporation, Legal Aid Bureau and Louisiana Civil Justice Center. In 2011, the LSBA presented him with the David A. Hamilton Lifetime Achievement Award for his lifetime commitment, outstanding service and dedication to Louisiana’s indigent.

Bienvenu currently serves as a Louisiana Delegate in the American Bar Association (ABA) House of Delegates and as a member of the Standing Committee on Public Education. He completed a three-year term as Chair of the Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service in 2022. He previously served on the Board of Governors in various capacities including the Section of Litigation and the Forum on Construction Law.

Bienvenu was admitted to the Louisiana Bar in 1980; he is also admitted to the U.S. District Courts: Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Louisiana. He is a member of the ABA Section of Litigation and the Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section. He is also a member of the Louisiana Law Institute, Legal Services Corporation Disaster Task Force, and Defense Research Institute.
