William A. Morvant

William Morvant served as a state district court judge in the 19th Judicial District Court seated in East Baton Rouge Parish for 24 years from 1997-2021. While on the bench, Judge Morvant presided over countless bench and jury trials covering all areas of civil law. In addition, Judge Morvant conducted hundreds of settlement conferences. Since joining Perry Dampf in 2022, he has conducted over 150 mediations with a very high success rate.

At the LSBA’s Annual Meeting in 2022, Judge Morvant (Ret.) received the Catherine D. Kimball Award for Advancement of the Administration of Justice. This award recognizes an individual who has done exemplary work in advancing the administration of justice in Louisiana. Judge Morvant served as a judge for the 19th JDC for 24 years until his retirement in 2021. He currently serves on the Judicial Supplemental Compensation Board and is an adjunct faculty member at LSU Law Center.

Prior to being elected in 1996, Judge Morvant practiced primarily in the areas of commercial litigation, contracts, products liability, and banking litigation. He is well versed in civil procedure and evidentiary matters.

Judge Morvant is a Louisiana native, born and raised in Thibodaux. He attended E. D. White Catholic High School and has now been residing in Baton Rouge for the past 40 years. He is happily married to Rhonda Waguespack Morvant, and they have three children together named Brian, Emily, and Eric. They are also proud grandparents of four grandchildren.

Professionally, Judge Morvant has accomplished many notable achievements. He was admitted to the Bar in Louisiana in 1985, where he has served as a member of the Baton Rouge Bar Association and Louisiana State Bar Association. Moreover, he has served as an Adjunct Professor at the LSU Law Center, specializing in Louisiana Civil Procedure. Judge Morvant has contributed to the legal community significantly as he is a Louisiana Law Institute Member, Civil Procedure Committee; on the Judicial Supplemental Compensation Board; and a member of the District Court Judges Association.

Judge Morvant's impressive demeanor, background and extensive legal experience undoubtedly contribute to his high regard within the legal community.
