Q.What is mediation?
Mediation is a voluntary procedure in which a mediator facilitates communication between the parties concerning a matter in dispute and explores possible solutions to promote reconciliation, understanding, and settlement. Communications made during the mediation process are confidential. See LSA-R.S. § 9:4112 for more detailed information regarding confidentiality.
Q.How does the mediation process start?
Once the attorneys agree to proceed with mediation, they can contact a case manager to inquire about specific dates and/or mediators’ availability. The SCHEDULE A MEDIATION request form may also be used to submit an online request.
Q.What is the difference between mediation and arbitration?
Mediation is a voluntary process where the parties involved often mutually agree to resolve their dispute. Arbitration is typically required by a contractual provision (non-voluntary), and the arbitrator’s decision is binding on the parties.
Q.How do I commence an arbitration?
To commence an arbitration, the following forms need to be completed by the attorney requesting arbitration: Arbitration-Request to Commence and Arbitration-Conflicts Checklist. For additional information, please view the Arbitrations page.
Q.What are the office hours?
Our offices are open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 AM to 5 PM, and from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM on Fridays.
